Yes, it's another blog. This one will have a definite life span, however. I'm going to be journaling my trip to Peru, my first time outside the US other than Canada. I leave one week from today. The countdown over there ---> shows the time to when my flight leaves. Once I reach Lima, I'll update it to countdown to when I return home.
Technically my journey starts next Tuesday, June 7th. I have a stats final at 12:00 p.m., then I'm catching the 4:05 p.m. Hut Shuttle to PDX. Since my international flight leaves at 6:01 a.m., I was not going to fight with trying to get to Portland by 4:00 a.m.. My plan is to get to the hotel around 7:00, have dinner, read for a bit, shower and shave, then try to get some sleep. The hotel has a 24-hour shuttle, so they can get me to the airport between 4:00 and 4:30 the next morning.
As for preparation, I have a new travel backpack (my carry on), borrowed a large suitcase, and have my passport. I've also made a card/cash carrier to wear around my neck. My prescriptions have been double filled since I'll be gone for my than 30 days, I have a three-prong adapter and power converter for my laptop and razor. And, most importantly, I have a sitter for the guinea pigs.
Tomorrow I need to see if I can find luggage tags, a neck pillow, and withdraw some cash so I have some on me (tips and such). My bank and credits cards have been notified of my trip, so I shouldn't have any trouble accessing funds while I'm away (I hope). I'll probably have to run to the store on Monday to make sure there are plenty of fresh veggies for the piggies so the sitter doesn't have to make a run first thing. I'm a little worried about them due to the current heat wave, but it's supposed to cool back down about the time I leave.
That's it for now. Over the next week I'll keep you updated on my preparations and let you know what I will be doing in Peru.
